After months of negotiations, Culpeper's Fire and Rescue Association has turned down a proposal from Rappahannock for operating a dual county dispatch system for fire and rescue units.
For years, Culpeper sheriffs department has - provided free dispatch service for fire and rescue units in Washington, Flint Hill, Amissville and Castleton as well as for the sheriff’s department here.
This past March, however, Culpeper Fire and Rescue Squad, owners of the communication equipment housed in the sheriffs office, announced that . Rappahannock's free emergency dispatch would cease as of July 1.
Meetings between supervisors and firemen brom both counties resulted only in Rappahannock getting 120 days to develop an alternative to elimination of the free service.
