My wife, son and I were fortunate to be able to attend the July 4th celebration held in Washington on Saturday.
It was good to participate with others in this observance of our nation’s birthday in a way that has been forgotten by so many communities. So many now look to their television sets as they sit back and relish their favorite refreshments rather than attend a celebration somewhere and physically share their spirit of patriotism.
Washington should feel pride in their community spirit and the contribution of its people. Especially pointed out should be the unselfish sharing of a beautiful display of fireworks over the grounds of Avon Hall, the delicious dinner prepared and told by the Rappahannock County Volunteer Fire Department membership and the demonstration of horsemanship conducted by members of the Rappahannock Hunt. They all gave up something in order to give pleasure to others for the day.
Thank you for a good 4th of July Independence Day celebration that really made you feel good to be an American.
