In general district court on Tuesday, Judge John Alexander bound over Charles L. Longerbeam and Richard W. Courtney to the grand jury on charges of felonious escape.
According to testimony from Dennis Makley, an employee of the Virginia highway department, the two were part of a convict crew assigned to picking up trash on the Shade Road west of Washington at the Route 211 intersection on April 21. “One inmate with a back problem was talking to me. I turned back around and those two were gone,” Makley told the judge.
