Rappahannock’s supervisors endorsed a joint dispatch service.
A special two-count) committee formed to address the problem suggested moving the dispatch center from the overcrowded Culpeper sheriffs office and hiring trained dispatch personnel to operate new equipment with costs to be shared proportionately between Culpeper and Rappahannock counties.
But Paul Poling, Amissville fireman and the county’s representative on the joint committee, told the Rappahannock supervisors on Monday that Culpeper’s Fire and Rescue Association is now “vehemently opposed" to any type of joint dispatch.
According to Poling, Culpeper firemen want Rappahannock "to get off the system entirely." Culpeper supervisors have no say in the matter, he noted, because the communicationsequipment is owned by the fire department, not by the county.
