(Continued from PUge 1) he went to public schools here for 10 years before graduating from RandolphMacon Academy. Estes also attended VPI.

He’s an active member of the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the county Jaycees. From 1962-1971, Estes was sheriff of Rappahannock County. He served from 1977 to the present on the county's board of zoning appeals and since 1979 as the BZA’s representative on the planning commission.

Within a minute or two of his appointment, Estes was sworn in, bonded and seated at the supervisors’ table, a full-fledged member of the board. Later in the meeting, he was unanunously voted the supervisor representative to the planning commission.

His replacement on the board of zoning appeals will be made by Circuit Court Judge Shore Robertson.
