totally for all contingencies in a mass casualty situation—there are just too many variables. However, a basic plan of action can be formulated in dealing with most forms of disaster. The desire to develop this type of community protection, like most goals of emergency medical services organizations, is motivated by the fact that our volunteers care about the community in which they reside.
The squads, hospitals and organizations that participated in the Sunday’s drill are to be commended for this reason: they care enough to realize that we all can improve in our preparation for the inevitable, that we are not too proud to say “we are not prepared for everything and should practice and train for something we hope will never . happen”.
the drill Sunday proved that there are some very capable individuals and organizations in our region. It also proved that we need further training and planning to be best prepared for a real disaster situation.
The RappahannockRapidan EMS Council regrets any inconvenience caused by use of the airport facilities on Sunday. We feel certain, however, that these two hours of inconvenience may prove to be a productive investment in the future safety and well-being of our community.
Perhaps the biggest thanks of all should go to the citizens of PD-9 for their support of emergency medical services and to our squads and hospitals for caring enough to participate.
