Association maintained earlier that the dispatch system can’t handle efficiently the 525 or so calls per year from Rappahannock, particularly with service instituted for two new Culpeper units.
“They say because of an overload from Rappahannock calls,” Poling reported.
He maintained that service could be provided to both counties if trained dispatchers processed the calls instead of the matrons and jailers of the Culpeper sheriffs department who currently staff the communications center. In addition, he noted that approximately 60 percent of Amissville’s fire and rescue calls are run in Culpeper County.
According to Poling, Culpeper sheriff Robert Peters hasn’t taken a position in the dispatch controversy. “The sheriff doesn’t want to get involved...He likes his job and elections are coming up.”
