Grant Can Be Used
Last December, Virginia's Rescue Squad Assistance Fund awarded the county an $11,600 matching grant after the Rappahannock supervisors committed $5,000 as the local share of equipment costs for fire and rescue dispatch.
According to Rosson, the grand funds can be used to equip a local dispatch center or applied towards the county’s share of a joint system with Culpeper.
On March 19, county respresentatives, including Sheriff Buntin, supervisor Charles Estes and fire and rescue personnel, will again try to secure funds from the state compensation board for dispatch positions when that group holds its budget request session in Warrenton.
Social Security
Visits Stop
The Culpeper office of Social Security will no longer send a representative to the court house in Washington due to lack of local response to those visits. "Most people have found that tiiey can save time and money by calling the office in Culpeper,” said manager Bruce Hundley. He added that the majority of questions regarding social security can be handled over the telephone or by correspondence. Rappahannock County will continue to be served by the Culpeper office at 522 Culpeper Shopping Center, telephone 825-3500.
