Point-to-Point racing as we know it today in Virginia began during the early 1940s when the up to then old fashioned meets began to construct specially built timber fences and to flag their courses.
Prior to that time, the Point-to-Point had retained their old fashioned flavor, with informal races between hunting people on their own horses, over natural courses and under hunting conditions, the first of these being the Warrenton Hunt Point-To-Point in 1934.
