They had decided already to settle in the country where they planned a semiretirement that was to include work for Sid in speech therapy and for Margaret in her field of tutoring youngsters with learning disabilities.

Their roots were in the Washington. D. C., area and so they began a search for rural property there, establishing a base of operations at the Fairfax home of Sid’s cousin, Sylvia Gowell and her husband Bob.

The four friends spent long hours talking of plans for the future and the Gowells were caught up in Sid and Margaret's dream of a selfsufficient old age.
