It’s getting to be that time of year again when Master Reynard takes off his running shoes and gets ready to pursue the pleasures of courtin’ time. So, too, does the foxhunter put away his bright pink hunting coat, in favor of equally bright racing silks, in preparation for the annual ritual of chasing his fellow foxhunters across the countryside, from one point to another.
Unfettered by heavy hunting clothes and mounted on a horse fits from a season of hunting, they undoubtedly will run somewhat faster than a normal hunting pace.
This is known as point-topoint racing, and although not quite as sophisticated as steeplechase racing, which is run under rules set down by the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association, it is a more refined version of the old fashioned type of pointto-point races, where the gentlemen of the hunt would challenge each other following the regular season to a race from one designated point to another in the area usually hunted.
