With just a single game left to play, Rappahannock's junior varsity Panthers have compiled a disappointing record of 4 wins and 13 losses for the 1981-82 season. Disappointing only because the junior Panthers were inched out of victory in all but three of the contests by a demoralizing margin of one, two or three points.
“We only lost three by a lop-sided score. The rest were will within range,” reported coach Dean Hahn. “We just didn’t make it through the final minutes.”
Hahn attributed his team's near misses to a lack of experience and a lack of proper coaching. "I’m just not a qualified basketball coach,” he acknowledged.
A teacher at RCHS until the end of December when he left for a position as probation officer for Rappahannock and Fauquier counties, Hahn remained on as jv coach for the secotid half of the season under a special exemption for the Virginia High School Athletic League. His expertise lies in baseball — not basketball—and he agreed to be jv coach in the first place because no one else would take the job. He stayed on for the same reason.
“I’d certainly like to. see Rappahannock do some recruting and find someone for a classroom vacancy who has a special interest in basketball,” Hahn said. “The kids deserve it. We have the ability here at this school to have some outstanding teams...Mr. Ed (varsity coach Bob Edmondson) does a real
