The season is over for the Panthers who finished with a 15-7 record, best ever for a Rappahannock basketball team. This team also accomplished another first for RCHS—they went to the regional.
On the squad of district champs were three who stood just a little above the rest. Topping the list was 6’5” senior center Mike Leake who scored 491 points this season for the second spot on the Bull Run District’s all-star five. The first player named to the second team was junior forward Clarence Pendleton. And last but not least was senior point guard Robert Myers who won honorable mention.
“Mike Leake is probably the best player I’ve seen in high school this year,” said RCHS coach Doyle Dawson. “He plays smart ball and I can count on him to hit the important shot, pull that crucial rebound and to give our team a lift.
