Match Race
Although the Durant Hill owner-rider hurdle race in the First Colony series had only two starters, it was a good match race. Jay Barr’s Pill Mill led for the first turn of the course, but “Chick” Owens’ Starboard Tack took over at the third last hurdle. They jumped together over the next, but Pill Mill landed first over the final hedge and edged out his rival by a scant three-quarters of a length at the finish.
