Nan said. They found a hideaway in Madison County’s Berry Hollow.
For years, Nan had pursued an interest in crafts, making the rounds at the large craft fairs in the D.C. and Baltimore area. She borrowed the Berry Hollow name, renewed all those contacts she had made at the fairs, collected enough craft items to start a little retail business and then opened up a shop near the family’s home in Silver Spring. “But once we opened Berry Hollow in the city, we never got to Berry Hollow in the country anymore so we started looking a little closer for land,” Nan said.
Their second find was on Blackwater Creek in Rappahannock. “Our intention was to build a place for weekends and holidays but the more we came out, the harder it was to go back to the city,” she recalled.
