Supervisor H. B. Wood made four motions aimed at bringing the tax rate down. He proposed all three of the cuts accepted by the board, and made a fourth motion that died for lack of a second. Surplus Remains
Talking about the $179,000 that Cox said would be sufficient for this year's surplus. Wood proposed that it be reduced to $150,000. “We’ve already got jail expenses in,” he said. “What could happen in the county that would cost more than $150,000?"
"We have to leave that $25,000 (for the assessment) in one place or another,” Dick Latham argued. “We can t cut both or we ll be in the same jam next year that we are now.”
