“I want to know if you will have bars on the windows and a security force,” he demanded.
“The windows will be barred,” Snead responded. “There will be no need for a special security force.”
“Have you put up any money yourself?” Thornton asked.
Snead said that he had put up $20,000 and that the project involved lawyers and architects as well as his partner, who had also put up $20,000.
Thornton asked where the employees would come from and Snead answered that they would come from the county as much as possible. In response to another question from Thornton, Snead replied that there would be dozens of support jobs in addition to the professional staff, jobs that he felt certain that county residents would be qualified for. There would be 76 jobs in all, Snead said, with three shifts covering all day and night hours.
“This is quite disturbing,” Thornton said. “People come up with all kinds of bad ideas based on employing county people. This is blatant development. If people need jobs, let them leave the county and get jobs elsewhere. Build it in Front Royal.”
Thornton concluded his statements by saying that “those legal notices are always hidden in the back of the paper. People didn’t see it, and that’s why they didn’t come forward before.”
