The Bicentennial Bugle noted
that a busy day was planned for the Fourth: “The Bugle’s Blast, this time should leave all buglers as well as the bugler, breathless, because this heralded event is the Bicentennial Biggie — July 4 — Declaration Day.
"So Rappahannock, as its county seat, i§ getting ready for a day of memorable events. Mrs. Dorothy Davis, chairman of the county’s yearlong celebration and Captain Howard Holschuh, chairman of this July 4th gala, have planned a program beginning about noon (after the usual Sunday church services are over) and continuing, fullpacked, until 6 or so.*’
“Although the detailed menu of the afternoon happenings will appear in the July 1 issue of the News it is the Bugler’s business, and a bonus to boot, to blow a few anticipatory blurtsherewith. Most of the doings in Washington will be on Gay Street (where else? Pity the communities that lack such a setting), but there are diversions elsewhere as well.”
