The efforts of some of the most creative county cooks have gone into the pickles and preserves section of Traditions. Mrs. Arthur Miller contributes her cucumber relish recipe, Mary Frances Fannon shares her zucchini relish directions, and Lynn Baines adds Mama’s Peach Pickles for use with one of Rappahannock’s most abundant fruits.
“For Kids Only” is the name of the final section in Traditions and here Rappahannock children are encouraged to try their hands at Pizza Cups, Frozen Fruit Salad, Sesame Seed Squares and other dishes that they will be delighted to make as well as to eat.
Included with the recipes and commentary on Rappahannock living are drawings of the county’s fine old homes, all sketched by local artists.
The advantage of a local cookbook is that it presents recipes that have been tried and tested by friends and neighbors. The Rappahannock women set out to compile a book both professional and personal. They have succeeded in this ambitious effort.
Proceeds from the sale of Traditions support the worthwhile activities of the group.
