of the NRA is even worse. Despite its oh-so-cosmetic national advertising campaign designed to show its members as “just plain folks” behind the scenes, the NRA, under its militant leaders, is surpassing its old tricks. It opposes a ban on these bullets.
Eight1 states now have laws against these bullets and at least seven more are working on them. Legislation to outlaw the bullets has already been passed in California. But clearly, federal legislation is needed to stop the threat. There is a bill in the Congress, sponsored by Sen. Daniel Moynihan and Rep. Mario Biaggi (a former policeman who was wounded ten times) that would work. The Law Enforcement Officers Protection Act (S. 555 & H.R. 953) would outlaw armor-piercing handgun bullets. Already, 13 Senators and 14(5 Representatives are cosponsoring the Movnihan-Biaggi bill.
Soft body armor cannot stop these bullets. But our elected representatives can. Write them of your support for this legislation.
