Over thirty Rappahannock landowners met in Washington last Thursday night to plan their response to Potomac Edison’s appeal to the Virginia Supreme Court. Most, but not all, of those attending the meeting were landowners who could be affected by the utility’s plans to upgrade its existing line using an old right-ofway agreement.
The upgrading planned by the power company replaces lines with a new 138 kilovolt line, a carrying capacity increase of sixteen times. The area of proposed upgrading is part of a larger transmission loop carrying power from Front Royal to Luray and to Gordonsville; Front Royal to Sperryville and to Gordonsville; and from Luray to Sperryville, making a dual supply to all those points. Many landowners involved suspect that this entire loop will eventually be involved.
