In the area of criminal law, the General Assembly approved legislation making it a class five felony for use or attempted use, in certain felonies, of so-called “armour piercing bullets” which can penetrate flak jackets often used by police and other law enforcement officers.
Conviction of a class five felony could bring from one to 10 years in a state prison, or up to 12 months in jail and/or a maximum fine of $1,000.
It will also be a class three felony to adulterate foods and beverages. That legislation came about in response to the deaths caused last year bv poisoned Extra Strength Tylenol capsules.
Persons convicted of a class three felony could serve between five and 20 years in prison.
Also, persons who desecrate church property with swastikas in an effort to intimidate could be guilty of a class six felony.
A class six felony carries a penalty of from one to five years in prison, or up to 12 months in jail and or a maximum fine of $1,000.
