Not everyone can sit back and watch the entire nation set off fireworks to celebrate her birthday, but that is what Judy Hitt (born on the 4th of July) does every year. We promised not to publish her age, though.
Attending Monday’s birthday/Independence Day cookout at the home of Mitch, Judy, Kerrie, and TYacy Hitt were Alan and Kathy Knighting and their daughter Brandy (now 15 months old), Shirley Frye Hitt, Donna Gail Hitt, Chucky and Bruce Frye, Randy Hitt, Barbara Martin (who bakes a tremendous chocolate eclair cake), Beverly and Kenny Settle and their one-month-old son Kenneth Settle, Jr. who was born in Charlottesville in late May. Grandma Shirley explains that while he is only one month old, he has lived through parts of three months now (May-July) and has attended his first noteworthy social event.
Also attending were Irene S. Cohen, of New York City, and newly appointed Rappahannock News Correspondent Michele May, of Amissville. The two met at the 1979 Cape Cod Writers’ Conference. Miss Cohen spent the weekend in Rappahannock, visiting the Luray Caverns, Monticello, and the Smithsonian Institution. Still, she called the fireworks at the
