A national search is underway to select a Bluegrass band to perform with Doc Watson, Norman and Nancy Blake, and The Country Gentlemen at the Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music Apple Harvest Music Festival. The event, scheduled for September 16 and 17 on the college campus in Winchester, is expected to attract an audience of 10.000 people.

Three preliminary contests will be conducted at Apple Blossom Mall in Winchester to select bluegrass band finalists that will compete for the opportunity to perform during the festival. The preliminary contests are scheduled for three consecutive Saturdays: August 27, September 3 and 10. Each preliminary contest will consist of three bands, judged on 20-minute sets. The winning band will be taped, their performance broadcast on radio station Q102, and they will be a contender in the final contest Friday, September 16.

The grand prize winner of the finals contest will receive a $300 contract to perform at the Apple Harvest Music Festival, Saturday, September 17, with Doc Watson, Norman and Nancy Blake, and The Country Gentlemen.

Bluegrass bands will be selected to compete in the preliminaries by submitting an entry form and cassette tape. Both amateur and professional bands are encouraged to enter. The entry
