To the editor:
One of the very agreeable features of living in Rappahannock County is having to thank the many who contribute their time and talents, considerable quantities of each in fact, to county doings. This justended celebration of Independence Day was one of the most remarkable demonstrations of this outpouring that Sam and I have seen. Beginning with the very beautiful costume ball that was held at the Zuco’s Jessamine Hill Farm on Saturday evening, and ending with the display of fireworks which the Carrigans have generously supplied each “Fourth” for 22 years, Rappahannock achieved a gala weekend which no other community of comparable size could have surpassed.
Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar missed recording a dazzlingly beautiful collection of gowns at the Costume Ball, which used the County’s Birthyear, 1833, as a theme. Such taste and variety made the task of the judges, Mrs. Paul Summers and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bonsignore, to whom we want to repeat our thanks, far more difficult than we had ever contemplated.
