John Henry Woodward took 46 percent of the vote to win the post of sheriff of Rappahannock County and Peter H. Luke coasted to victory in the commonwealth’s attorney race by a two-to-one margin, according to unofficial returns for Tuesday’s elections.
In supervisor contests, Clarence Baldwin in Hampton and Nelson Lane in Stonewall-Hawthome won handily while incumbent board chairman J.R. Latham appears to have pulled off a five-vote squeeker in Jackson District.
In the battle for the 26th district seat in the Virginia Senate, Rappahannock voters chose Republican Kevin Miller over Democrat Ernest Schlabach, 1,362 to 873.
In the commonwealth’s attorney’s race, Luke topped David L. Konick in all of Rappahannock’s six precincts, the margin ranging from 15 votes in Chester Gap to a three-to-one edge
