concrete bridge, “a local terror.” But to decrease the safety hazard there, he asked that the road at the long, uphill “S” curve '/. mile west of the bridge be widened and the curves softened. “There’s a steep dropoff and no shoulder, no guard rail," Kilpatrick said, adding that the landowner who holds the property on both sides is reportedly willing to donate the necessary right-of-way. He also requested erection of a sign warning of the “S” curve and relocation of the one-lane bridge sign to give adequate warning.
Halfway down the “S” curve, Kilpatrick continued, the Highway Department has built a concrete boxed culvert. He asked that a grate to added across the top and a warning reflector installed.
Julia Gordon noted that the Highway Department had improved Route 681 with a culvert and raised road as requested but without a safety guardrail there, motorists face a danger on icy roads of sliding into the river.
In addition, she requested removal of the tree in the middle of Route 681 at Church Hill. The tree creates a blind spot for drivers
