“The importance of keeping the Social Security program on a sound financial basis is critical to the best interests of Americans of all ages,” stated Slaughter. “The bill I am cosponsoring would not only reimburse the Social Security trust funds for the loss of short term and long term interest due to the recent disinvestment of trust fund assets caused by the congressional deadlock on the debt ceiling legislation, but also provide safeguards to ensure that the trust funds will be protected from any similar debt ceiling skirmishes."
