In order to benefit from-sales when Christmas shopping, you have to plan ahead, said Elaine B. Scott, Virginia Tech Extension specialist in financial management.
Begin with a list, she said. Write down all of the individuals for whom you are planning to purchase gifts. Then decide a money range (maximum and minimum amount) that is acceptable for each person.
“Before you go any further, add up all the minimum amounts to be sure that the total is within your budget and that you have some left over for flexibility,” Scott said.
Next to each person’s name and amourit, write down some presents that you feel are appropriate. Be sure that the item you consider is within the price range you have specified. Try to have two or three alternatives for each person.
