Gifts to give
We know, of course, that it is better to give than to receive. This gives meaning to the spirit of Christmas.
When we think about giving, it would be good to remember those who could really use something to brighten their holiday.
Like food.
Each year the people at the Rappahannock County Department of Social Services do their best to provide Christmas food baskets to needy families and to older people who often live alone. Fourteen foster children are also recipients of their kindness.
The money and food allocated for these food baskets does not come from the state or the federal government. It comes from you.
The food that goes into the Christmas baskets is not from the Bloomingdale’s gourmet department. It consists of basics — a turkey, some eggs, potatoes. If the department can afford it, there may be a sweet or two.
Please be generous and give this agency a check, canned goods - or both.
