The Town of Washington Architectural Review Board's repermit
for the construction of a vinyl-covered chain-link fence between the rear parking lot of The Inn at Little Washington and Mrs. Irving Sisk’s house was affirmed by Town Council at its meeting last Wednesday evening.
Installation of the fence was begun by Peter Kreyling, contractor for The Inn, before he realized that a permit was required for its construction. He applied for a certificate of appropriateness at the ARB’s Nov. 20 meeting. The request was denied by a unanimous vote of the board’s three members (Carol Miller, Jim Thomasson and Evelyn Willis).
The reason cited was the historic district ordinance’s requirement that any materials used in new construction within the historic district and in public view be appropriate to the period dating ftom the town’s founding to 1900. Vinyl-covered chain-link fence was deemed by the board to be inappropriate to that time period. The ARB informed Mr. Kreyling at that meeting that the
