way to resolve an important issue, will they also support binding referendums on other important issues, such as tougher penalties for drunken drivers, mandatory seat belts, raises for public school teachers, ERA, the death penalty, choice/right to life, etc.? By supporting a binding referendum on only a single issue, isn’t a legislator really “copping-out” and supporting that issue in a manner calculated to avoid accountability?
If your readers believe that consistency, credibility, and accountability are important to the Commonwealth’s legislative process, then I urge them to make their opposition to a referendum on the volatile issue of a state-sponsored lottery known to their state senators and delegates within the next few days.
