Council then directed the ARB to develop suggestions for types of approved fencing similar to the guidelines now being used for suggested paint colors appropriate for use within the historic district.
In other business, the council:
• Approved a request from the Rappahannock Recreation Association to use the town’s streets for the annual Fodderstack race, set for mid-April.
• Heard a report from the Water Authority that approximately 200,000 gallons of water a month continue to be unaccounted for. Brad Fisher added that $3,000 was spent on maintenance in the last month, including the replacement of a fire hydrant.
Mr. Fisher said that Ray Pullen is working on cleaning out a section of brush over the supply line into town, and that he feels when the pipe is excavated they will find that a tree root has broken the line, causing the leak.
• Mr. Fisher reported that the town has $2,010 in its checking account, $5,070 in savings, and $826 in the Water Authority account.
• Directed that a letter be sent to Don Askew, resident engineer for the Highway Department, requesting a traffic survey be done in conjunction with a request to lower the speed limits in town.
• Directed that a letter of appreciation be sent to Randolph Clater commending his work as a member of the town’s Planning Commission.
• Asked Mr. Fisher to try to schedule a meeting regarding liability insurance for the members of - council.
