“They’re only things,” Mr. Pivarnik said, “I’m just glad no one was here.”
Firefighters from Flint Hill, Chester Gap, Washington, Sperryville, Salem (Culpeper Co.), Front Royal and Rosemont (Warren Co.) responded to the alarm. Chief Huff said that the building was too far gone to save when the trucks arrived, and the effort was directed toward keeping the flames from spreading to five adjacent structures, two only eight feet from the burning house.
By wetting the roofs and siding, the firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one building.
