Norwood contributed seven, while Tony Atkins sunk six points for Rappahannock.
Coach Vickers stressed that the eighth grade league, although competitive, is intended primarily to give the young players some experience with organized, league basketball, and affords them a chance to play as a team. It’s really a training ground for those who are planning to go on to junior varsity and varsity play later in high school, he said.
“It’s a real good team,” the coach said. “They work well together, and complement each other well. As far as I’m concerned we’re doing real well.”
The Panther eighth graders will play a total of 10 games, facing five different schools twice each. Games begin at 4 p.m. In Mr. Vickers’ previous seasons as coach the team has finished with records of 6-2 and 5-4.
