Sheriff asks
Rappahannock Sheriff John Henry Woodward is requesting that Rappahannock County residents DO NOT use the “911” emergency number recently installed at the Culpeper and Warren County dispatch centers for those counties’ residents.
Sheriff Woodward said that emergency responses to several recent calls in the county have been delayed because the call was made to the dispatch centers in Culpeper or Warren counties and had to be relayed to the Rappahannock dispatcher.
The emergency number for residents in the 675, 987, 937, 825 and 547 exchanges in Rappahannock County is 987-8525.
For Rappahannock County residents in the 635 and 636 exchanges, the emergency number is 635-4488.
Sheriff Woodward said that he hopes that Rappahannock County will be added to the 911 system in the near future, but added that at this time dialing the 911 number only delays the response of emergency units.

The Rappahannock County Lions Club’s annual Bland music scholarship contest will be held Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2:30 p.m. in the music room of the Rappahannock Elementary School.
Three prizes are awarded in each category of performance: instrumentalist and vocalist.
The winner of each category will go on to compete in the Lions region contest, followed by the Lions district contest and finally the statewide contest in May. State contest winners receive a substantial financial reward.
Those eligible are any boy or girl, vocalist or instrumentalist, attending elementary, junior or senior high school (and for the Rappahannock contest in February, a resident of this county).
Those attending the Rappahannock public schools should contact Mrs. Cathy Fox or Miss Cathy Hewitt for forms to register for this contest. Forms should be returned by the student no later than Feb. 15. Those not attending the county public schools, but who are residents of this county should call 675-3219, or write “Bland Contest,” P.O.
