Other school divisions have far more people to shoulder the administrative load, countered Chairman Beverly Massie. All school divisions, whether serving 800 or 2,500 students, “are mandated by the state to cany on the same functions, fill out the same reports, the same forms, the same IEPs (individual educational plans) ... I don’t know how we can take away a position with line responsibility ... I don’t see how we can give these people (the school administrators) any more hats to wear,” Mrs. Massie contended.
All Rappahannock officials wear many hats, Mr. McCarthy replied, adding that as zoning administrator, he has the same responsibilities as his counterpart in Fairfax and no assistants to share the duties. But, like the school administrators in a small division such as Rappahannock’s, “there are far fewer forms to fill out and I can write N/A (not applicable) much more often,” he said.
As of press time, Mr. Campbell had not completed recalculations on the new bottom line and required county contribution for the proposed 1987-88 school budget. Superintendent Estabrook is scheduled to go over the contemplated educational expenditures in detail with Mr. McCarthy this Friday.
