Rappahannock County’s first annual Spring Cleanup Day, organized by the Rappahannock Anti-Litter League and You (RALLY!) is planned for Saturday, and organizers say that all signs point to a successful event.
David Chuse, who heads the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, which is helping to coordinate the cleanup, said that he expects between 50 and 100 participants. Plans call for volunteers to meet at the Rappahannock County Recreation Center on Rt. 211 outside Washington at 10 a.m.
Zoning Administrator John McCarthy, who is also wearing the hat of RALLY! coordinator, said that his office is still receiving suggestions of problem areas which need attention. So far, he reported, the suggested targets relate to the coun- <■ ty’s miyor population areas. The Fodderstack Road,- Rt. 211 west of < SperryviDe up into the Shenandoah Park, and stretches of Rt. 729 between Rt. 211 and Viewtown have all been suggested as possible cleanup sites.
Since the weather has moderated, Mr. McCarthy added, Sheriff , John Henry Woodward has had jail inmates out picking up trash along some of the county’s roads, which he said has helped ease the litter situa- - tion in some areas.
