“Origins and Excavations” is the program planned by artist Valentina Dubasky during her stay in Rappahannock as the RAAC artist in residence.
The program, which will include the Front Royal schools as well as the Rappahannock elementary and high school, will begin with Dubask/s arrival next Friday (April 3).
Ms. Dubasky, whose primal images of animals are widely recognized and exhibited is, like many of Rappahannock’s local artists, fascinated by the insights primitive art provides us: examining our origins as it reveals not only the tools and habits but the fears and beliefs of our ancestors; and excavating in many meanings of the word - bringing up the past as well as bringing up our own primitive consciousness buried under layers of civilization and self-consciousness.
The connection between the two types of excavation will be explored at a joint presentation with Ms. Dubasky and Joan Walker, Director of the Thunderbird Museum near Front Royal on Saturday, April 4.
