freezer, he will do the job, even if it means going out in the middle of the night. And if he can’t fix it, he’ll plug in a unit in the store and put the food in that until he can get the necessary parts. “I just can’t see anybody losing all that food,” he explained.

He related a story about going on a "house call,” and after fixing the stove, which was what the call was for, he fixed a broken washing machine. "Then she asked me if I knew anything about garage door openers,” he recalled. “I said I didn’t, and she replied, ‘Well, don’t you think you should?’ ” So Mr. Brown fixed the garage door opener.

Mr. Brown said that he will service any brand of appliance, and if parts are needed, he can get them too. "I felt there was a great need for someone in the county to do service, and provide parts for the people who live here.”

With new appliances, Mr. Brown said that delivery, installation and a demonstration are part of the package — just another courtesy to his customers.

The Browns also pointed out that because they are a small, familyowned business, they can save their customers money on sales and service over larger companies. They don’t have the costly overhead which often runs up the bills at large stores.

While Carolyn Brown is managing the store, daughter Amy will be doing the bookkeeping. And when son Patrick graduates from high school this year, he will join his dad in the service end of the business. Another son, Roger, also attends school in Rappahannock. . Mrs. Brown is a native of Rappahannock, and Mr. Brown’s family still lives in Marshall, where he grew up. He is a member of several community organizations, including the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department.

Having his own appliance store is something Mr. Brown has wanted' for several years, but.itka dreara he* admits not everybody thought would come true. Now that it’s happened, though, "I feel just as happy as I can be . . . ITn back in appliances because I enjoy it - the idea of someone being happy from what I do.”
