I played my last organized football game in the fall of 1940, and finished the season with no injuries other than a flattened nose. Some years before that I had broken my right ankle sliding into a base, and that ankle was temperamental.
But, after that final football fling, I went into the Navy and spent three and a half years on a destroyer which rolled and pitched even in port. The constant bracing of my legs against the sea action seemed to end my ankle problem, and whatever knee problem I may have had seemed also to disappear.
But, about 10 years ago that left knee became temperamental on its own, for no apparent reason. It would not foretell the coming of rain or anything else of any use whatever, it would'just be a bit finicky about holding up.
