Local artists to speak

The public is invited to a Gallery Talk by watercolorists Lynette Nicholas and Scott Robinson on Friday at 8 p.m. at Middle Street Gallery. Ms. Nicholas and Mr. Robinson are exhibiting at Middle Street throughout June. They will talk about their imagery, their techniques and their artistic concerns. Admission is free.

Art and ‘Powers That Be’

The second film in “The Shock of the New” series about the nature and purpose of art in the 20th century will be shown Monday, June 13, at 8 p.m. at Washington’s Gay Street Theater. Entitled “Powers That Be,” the film looks at the effect of World War I on such artists as Max Ernst and George Grosz, as well as considering Russian constructivism and the architecture of Albert Speer. There will be an informal discussion after the movie. The eight-part series is being sponsored by Middle Street Gallery through the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities. Admission is free.

Flint Hill carnival planned

Flint Hill firemen’s carnival will be held Aug. 3-6. Anyone wishing to participate in the parade Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m. is invited to contact Moe Walker at 675-3441, evenings.
