John McCarthy, the board’s administrative assistant, said that yet another option for the landfill’s operation has been suggested to him.
“The question we have juggled with is the factor that whoever is out there is going to have to be a jack-ofall-trades. There’s not enough landfill activity to keep him busy for eight hours, so he's going to have to move dirt, push trees, as well as run the equipment and supervise the gate operations.”
The options considered so far, he added, are for the county to hire an employee, or to contract with an outside firm for the work. Also to be considered, Mr. McCarthy said, is whether the county should buy the necessary heavy equipment, or lease it from a contractor.
Another option recently proposed. Mr. McCarthy said, would be for the county to hire an employee who wTould have overall responsibility for the site, "up to and including a dog pound, if it comes to that.”
Under him, the administrator said, would be a contracted equipment operator who would run the equipment “and do whatever the county’s employee tells him to do.” The agreement would also specify’ that the operator supply all necessary equipment, as well as replacements if
