Financing the campaign, Sen. McCarthy said, depends greatly on that. “It will take a whole lot of money to do it if we don’t get coverage. If we do get it, the financing would be a whole lot less difficult.”

His immediate plans are to determine in which states it is still possible—and worth the effort—to be placed on the ballot. “We don’t have to do very much in the next two months except to try and get on the ballot” in as many states as possible.

And in November, his scenario for success would be to get on the ballot in a number of states where he has a chance to do well, and maybe even win in one or two. In a close election, that could leave him with the swing votes in the Electoral College.
