Margaret Lee to the board of directors of the Rappahannock Recreation Authority. The board also asked that it be represented, but Supervisor Lane declined Mr. Estes’ nomination. Mr. McCarthy agreed to serve as the board’s representative.
• Appointed Susan Babcock, Phil Irwin, Lindsay Eastham, John Lyle and Nelson Lane to the Agriculture and Forestal District Advisory Board. The nine-member panel already includes Gordon Thornhill, Birgitt Thornhill (in her capacity as County Extension Agent, which she recently resigned), John Clark and Randail Updike.
Under state law, the board must be comprised of four members actively involved in agriculture or forestry, four freeholders who may or may not be involved in those enterprises, and one member of the Board of Supervisors.
• Was notified by accountant Wally Cox that the Washington Volunteer Fire Department intends to accept the board’s offer to buy its note from the Fanners Home Administration, which was going to sell the loan to a private finance company. Under the agreement, the note will be held by the county, and the fire department will make its payments to Rappahannock County. Mr. Cox added that Sperryville, the other company, which had taken such a loan, paid off the note and will not need the county’s help.
