He was a former member of Amissville United Methodist Church, where he had served as chairman of the board, and a current member of Jeffersonton United Methodist Church.
As a board member and president of the Culpeper Mental Health Association during the 1970s, he was instrumental in the development of the first Culpeper Mental Health Clinic. He was later a member of the Virginia Mental Health and Retardation Service Board of Planning District 9.
