mm. irnia i^awson plans to leave for Philadelphia on June 27. A covered dish luncheon is set for Tuesday, June 26, at noon, in the fellowship hall of Amissville United Methodist. Everyone is invited to attend.
Mrs. Lawson was bom in the house in which she has called home for 85 years on July 18. It belonged to her mother Mrs. Lou Emma Tolbert.
Mrs. Lawson, the wife of the late Howard “Deacon” Lawson, has three children: Howard, Jr. lives in Philadelphia and is an overland trucker; Ney lives in Chicago and is manager of Regulatory Rates and Tariff with Ameritech; Charles lives in New Mexico where he is an electrician. (Mrs. Lawson reared Charles as her own son upon the death of his mother when he was only three months old.)
Mrs. Lawson’s mother assisted in the birth of many area residents, included Mr. Graham Hackley. She leaves behind many dear friends. Mrs. “Micky” Stuart remarked she had never seen a frown on the face of Mrs. Lawson, that she was always a positive person, never one to complain. She enjoys excellent health and is still very active. She says it was inevitable that she make some changes in her life. She will be living with her brother, Mr. Willie Beverly in Philadelphia; he, too, enjoys excellent health.
Daughter Ney says there are no plans to ever sell the property since it has been in the family for so many years. Her house contents will be sold at an auction at Amissville fire hall on July 14.
She has donated an old quilt top to United Methodist Women to complete for their fall bazaar; others include a silk, velvet, and wool quilts featuring crow’s foot stitching.

Our hearts are heavy and saddened at the death of Mr. Carl Yates on Sunday night. He had many friends living in our area.
The firemen’s carnival will be June 27-30. On Wednesday, ride all you can for $5. Thursday thru Saturday they are $6. On Thursday, the parade begins at 7 p.m. Phone your entries to 937-4357 or fall in line at end. Parade will be on U.S. Rt. 211.
Little League will be selling baked goods at the carnival grounds on Thursday and Friday night, June 28 and 29. Donations for baked goods may be phoned to fund-raising chairman Cheryl Diggs at 937-5783 or 5157.
The community is encouraged to attend a softball tournament featuring Little League mothers on Saturday, June 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
