Mr. Updike^ said Tuesday that REC and Virginia Power brought in a aircraft to fly along the transmission line to the Rixeyville substation, which as been a source of continuing problems during the past year. He said that several potential problem areas were identified during the overflight, and he expects that the company will take steps to prevent future outages. “Hopefully, that is some encouragement to people who suffered through the outage.”

7610901Sheriff John Henry Woodward said his department assisted the VDOT crews in clearing trees from the roads, but found the going slow. “As fast as they cut trees out of the way, another one fell back across the road in almost the same place.”

Members of the Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Department went out in the company’s fourwheel drive brush truck on Friday evening to clear trees off some of the back roads around Castleton, Sheriff Woodward said.

The Virginia Department of Transportation worked around the clock until Sunday afternoon to clear the county’s roads of fallen trees, according to maintenance supervisor Ennis Jenkins.
