“We love acting,” he said, adding while the couple enjoys their work on stage, together, their enjoy the work on the floor. “We love producing, too. This is the turning point.”
And what a turn the couple has made.
Frank, originally from Pennsylvania, and Sheree, originally from Las Vegas, met in California while pursuing acting careers.
In 1984, the two put aside their acting careers and began their careers directing and producing different pieces.
“We did some really neat things on our own,” Sheree said, while things were challanging, friends and colleagues encouraged their move to the East Coast and New York City.
“We started a dinner theater in Queens,” Sheree said, adding at the time there “were no dinner theaters in Queens. It was an artistic desert. ”
“We’ve a'lot of confidence in ourselves,” she said, alluding to the endeavor they’ve taken on in Washington^./ similar in many ways to their past experience in Queens, New York.
“We are fearless when it comes to taking a risk or traveling unfamiliar territory,” she said With definite confidence.
Things weren’t easy in Queens. The Krens found professional actors and actresses unwilling to travel the distance from New York City to the Queens for dinner theater pieces. Only when the Krens decided to put the “show on the road” did they find success.
“We would do it for a few weeks in Queens then move it into the city,” Sherre said of the theater, adding, before long there was a line of anxious patrons for dinner seats.
