From his small laboratory at Tuskegee he discovered and developed hundreds of products from these agricultural raw materials. He used soybeans to produce flour, breakfast foods, and a milk substitute. From peanuts he developed bleach, metal polish, paper, ink, linoleum, synthetic rubber, and plastics. He developed over one hundred products from the sweet potato.
By his efforts, this Black American scientist revolutionized agriculture in the United States. His methods are still practiced today. Research is constantly being conducted on new potential crops, and finding new uses for existing crops. George Washington Carver had the desire to learn, and the ability to improve our world. He did a fine job.
The Soil Conservation Service, and the Culpeper Soil and Water Conservation District, salutes Dr. Carver and his efforts, and offers all programs and services without discrimination.
